2003
Eight college students visited 20-30 disconnected villages as part of a two-week summer internship program, gathering the children and teaching them songs and stories. Activities continued year after year without any structure or resources.

Children clubs (non-formal education) in remote villages and relief work during the time of flood and natural calamities were organized with the help of local people with local resources.

In order to empower and help women who were victims of violence, the first 8-month residential program was launched in February 2014. Twenty-five women registered in the first batch to receive training.
2016
A formal educational wing was launched in March 2016 to educate and help children in all backgrounds. In the academic year 2016/2017, 40 students registered.

The vision for STEP is clearer—and bigger—than ever. Goals:
• Educate 2000 children through formal and non-formal educational programs.
• Train and empower 500 young men and women through employable-skills programs.
• Provide relief and carry out developmental initiatives as needed.
